Chris Waugaman, MJE is a 2012 Lowell Milken Fellow, dedicated to bringing the story of L. Alex Wilson’s heroic efforts as a journalist to light.

Chris teaches journalism at Prince George HS in Virginia, where he also advises the PGTV NEWS student broadcast, the Royal News student newspaper, the online news site trnwired.org, the yearbook Peerage, and the school’s literary magazine. His students have won several national awards including the NSPA Pacemaker and Columbia Crown Award.

The following team of students is the original group of students who started on the task of researching L. Alex Wilson’s heroic efforts. Each year since 2012-2013 a team of students works on an additional project which tells the story of an unsung hero who was a member of the black press.

Senior Destiny Banks was a first year broadcast student in Media Productions in 2012-2013. She was involved in concert and marching band at PGHS. She continued her students at a university in North Carolina. Contact her at destinybanks77@yahoo.com

 

 

Junior Rebecca Shumar was a first year broadcast student in Media Productions during the project. She was involved in cross country, indoor, outdoor track, and advanced choir at PGHS. She currently attends Virginia Tech as a Mass Communications major. Email her at beckyshumar@gmail.com

 

 

Junior Jasmine Lackey was a first year broadcast student in Media Productions at the time of the project. She was involved in cross country, indoor track, and tennis programs at PGHS. She currently attends Virginia Commonwealth University. Email her at jlack96@gmail.com.

 

 

Senior Korrina Smith was a senior and was a second year journalism student at the time of the project. She was also the online editor of trnwired.org. Korrina was involved in dance with Deborah’s School of Dance for 15 years. Korrina is currently working in the dental field and attending Old Dominion University. Senior Caleb Johnson was a second year PGTV News director. He was the class president for SGA since freshmen year. Caleb shined as a football player and captain as a four-year starter. Caleb attends William and Mary. Contact him at calebjohnson2424@gmail.com
